WINTER PARK, FL – Musgrave Building & Restorations, an award-winning construction company versatile in both residential and commercial projects, has completed a state-of-the-art, full-service recording studio in Winter Park Village.

Music Lab, a full-service studio that provides a wide slate of teaching, recording and rehearsal services, is the first non-retail business to open in the 12-year-old complex located on Orlando Avenue in Winter Park, says Principal and Co-owner Alex Assoian.
The 3,400 square-foot lab is located in the northeast corner of the Village adjacent to the Cheesecake Factory in an area that previously was designed for commercial offices but served as a storage warehouse since the center’s inception, says Musgrave Principal Jeff Musgrave.
Musgrave says the entire space had to be totally reconfigured from scratch and required special building materials to ensure the acoustic quality standards and to contain the sound within the lab.
The lab, the first “music oriented” construction project for Musgrave which has built its reputation primarily on new home construction and historic renovations in Orlando and Winter Park, took approximately six weeks to complete.
“It wasn’t your typical commercial construction project which usually follows a simple formula from start to finish,” says Musgrave. “This was a real learning experience that required a very different approach and the careful blending of construction, music science and art.”
Assoian and partner Andrew Hautzenroeder, two 20-something musicians turned entrepreneurs, decided to deviate from the “old business model” and open their lab in a high traffic, highly visible retail center instead of a free standing or commercial office setting.
“But, more importantly,” says Assoian, “is that we’re a music development facility – not your typical recording studio. We are providing a safe haven for musicians to express their creative energy and artistic flow.”
The Music Lab is located right next to the Guitar Center, one of the older establishments at Winter Park Village and a business magnet for attracting musicians and non-musicians alike. It also is where both Assoian and Hautzenroeder previously worked before launching their own enterprise.
“Every musician in Central Florida knows where the Guitar Center is located and now they know where we are,” says Assoian.
Since opening their doors October 1, business has been booming and is expected to get busier as the word gets out about their state-of-the-art facility which features a private rehearsal stage in an 800 square-foot, acoustically treated room and a recording studio that features the original console – a Sony DMXR100– used by the great Dave Brubeckto record his last three albums.
Hautzenroeder says the Music Lab has something for everyone – from the novice who aspires to be the next American Idolbut needs lessons to get there, to accomplished musicians and artists who require a professional, acoustically treated studio with in-house production, engineering and high-end equipment, to the producers who wish to add their tracks to the lab’s servers.
“This, literally, has been one of my most entertaining projects we’ve ever done,” says Musgrave.
Earlier this year, Musgrave Building & Restorations captured two first-place awards in the annual Parade of Homes, winning top honors in its category in the Remodel and Custom Home divisions. One of Central Florida’s more diversified construction companies, Musgrave’s services include new home construction, renovations, remodels, historic restorations, additions and light commercial.
